2014 is about to die. yay!

bassadelic2014dec

Yes, 2014 is almost over, thankfully. It had it’s ups and it’s downs, but it’s going to be terrific to see all the, ‘2015,’ stamps all over the place soon. So what’s terrible about December? Well, I have to pay rent today, and I don’t want to ;) but besides that, it should be a pretty good month.

Cock Rock Disco is back, for all fans of hardcore. For those of you who don’t remember, Cock Rock Disco was the legendary label that Jason Forrest ran, featuring Dev/Null, Duran Duran Duran, and many other awesome hardcore electronic act from a few years back. Now, you can get all that music for free on their website!

Oh, and old skool rave music has been gearing up to make a prett heavy swing into the forefront of electronic music. I find that incredibly exciting, and it’s why the ‘theme’ of the month features an old rave flyer with Keith Harring style doodles on it! (Yes, I ‘sampled’ this flyer and redid the words to fit my own needs. Figured it’d be cool. Hope that’s ok?)

There’s a fucking ridiculous sale going on now at https://sellfy.com/bassadelic , with most of our sample packages going for about half of the normal price. Folks are getting into that, so if you’re considering a purchase, now is probably the time – the sale will end abruptly, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, so you’d better hurry :)

Been working on some new tutorial videos, and I’m still definitely doing more of the ‘5-minute beat tutorials,’ too. Also, there is going to be a new additional series of tutorials coming out on Bassadelic soon that, for real, ISN’T by (me) StrangeFlow. …I know, right? What?!! Not going to say who it is just yet, but I’m looking forward to it!! Looking forward to telling 2014 to fuck off and die. Bassadelic is now back where it really got off the ground, Washington State. I know I’ve mentioned that a few times now, but I find it exciting! I love it here! Been able to do so much more with music production (and productivity in general) so starting off 2015 in this mode should be nothing but awesome! Dynasty Shit, the label we run, is also going full swing, with footwork going hard in the fuckin paint and folks really beginning to take notice. I hope that continues!

Alright, well, stay tuned! Hope everyone is doing well. Not going to have any Christmas themed posts, so, uh, don’t look forward to that, I guess. lol. Unless you count the black friday sale, which is still going on for some reason, thus making it, technically, a ‘holiday sale.’ Ah well.

Hey, what about some fuckin trax or something?

OK! Here’s a fun old skool mix, straight outta’ ’93!!

BTW, have you heard of eP✺xY reC✺rDs? Because you haven’t yet, there’s a good chance you will soon! It’s a brand new label, and they just put out their first compilation last night! Check it out here:

https://soundcloud.com/epoxyrecords/sets/full-spiral-free-dl

Anyway, yay! 2015! Yea! A StrangeFlow is in the works, too. Get ready for some 2015 PHUNK. No, not funk. PHUUUUUNK. Well, maybe it will be funk with an, ‘f,’ you’ll just have to wait and see.

the Fucking-Ridiculous Sale of Samples! Most of the samples are now half-priced!

fucking-ridiculous-sale-@-basadelic

https://sellfy.com/bassadelic

It’s the Fucking-Ridiculous Sale. We’ve discounted a majority of our products over @ Bassadelic, most of em are now half price. (most of em are now around six bucks USD, too, which is, uh, fucking-ridiculous, tbh.) anyway, please enjoy. Trap, Glitch Hop, Electro Swing, Breakcore, Footwork, Jungle, etc, etc, etc! Especially Etc! And please, please don’t go out shopping on Thanksgiving, if you can help it, please go Wednesday or Friday – a lot are friends are being strong-armed by greedy corporations to work on the holiday, and that’s REALLLLY fucking-ridiculous, but whether or not you buy from our store, we really should send a message that we don’t want want they’re selling on Thursday. If we can do that, maybe we can really help out…

Didn’t actually intend on making this post political.. But since you’re reading this, that means I got the mic for a minute, so why not?

As far as the music side of all this, though:

the Cock Rock Disco label is back, and everything they’ve ever released is completely free! Yes! Thouands of hours of breakcore for everyone!

Cock Rock Disco is Back! (and, for some reason, everything ever released is completely free!)

Breakcore pioneer/Cock Rock Disco founder, Jason Forrest, has recently put the entire catalog up on the ol’ interwebz a few days ago. Go to Cock Rock Disco’s official site, here, to find the magical link for the wonderful releases page, where you can then go on to download as much as your heart desire. Warning: you will be spending days and days on this page alone. Careful, now.
Also, the soundcloud page is here: https://soundcloud.com/cock-rock-disco-label

Jason Forrest was instrumental in Cock Rock Disco, it’s true; but here’s something else you might not realize – without him, Bassadelic.com might never exist (and certainly, our label, DynastyShit.com would DEFINITELY never exist!)

I remember contacting Jason years ago, as I was a huge fan of everything related to breakcore (some of the CRD albums are still sitting on my shelf) and I remember talking to him, asking him questions about his record label, trying to formulate a plan of my own. I became so inspired by what he was doing, I went on to make my own label, the now abandoned (but probably still online) Soul Outsider record label and blog. I eventually changed the name to Bassadelic, basically started anew, and housed it on a completely different server before also making the Dynasty Shit record label (which is now going full-motherfucking-throttle, btw!).

(Another fun little footnote: Bassadelic.com originally started out as a forum. But after about two weeks I hated the Bassadelic Forum. So, now it’s a blog and company… Anyway, back to the story…)

So, you can definitely get your fix of some fine electronic music from the last ten years if you head to the links listed above. But what does the future hold for Jason? Is he done? Has he completely finished with music? Should we all be worried that he’s giving away all of his musical possessions?

No! Quite the contrary – we should be thrilled!! Jason is definitely not done. Actually, he’s just getting warmed up. He told me that he wants to mix, “2002 style breakcore with 2015 style experimental electronic music,” – a statement that, well, knowing Jason, is something to take pretty seriously.

Here are just a few of the full albums you can get, that have been posted on the soundcloud page:

When I contacted him ten years ago, he was living in Berlin. But since then, he’s come back to the States for awhile, and says he “did the money thing, but is interested in music as a passion now.”

So maybe that’s why he’s giving away pure and unadulterated musical gold from the 2000s. Well, whatever the reason, a lot of people are happy about the generosity, especially as breakcore (and all things related) has been quietly sneaking back into prominence, little by little, for the last year or so…

“I ended my career in many ways, but that meant I had to bring it back from the dead now, too.”

So, as of now, where the hell is the guy who put this label together?

“Middle of nowhere,” he said, adding, “Charlotte, North Carolina.”

I asked if he moved there because it was where he was from, originally..

“Yes, but it also is the place where I got a job, and you know, beggars cant be choosers.”

Despite this, all of us breakcore fans can happily be beggy beggy choosers as we sift through the treasure trove of good free hardcore electronic music from 2006 over @ Cock Rock Disco! Cheers!!

Straight Outta Washington! New footwork album with 5ifty$ix K

PNW BASS - Let Go LP (with 5ifty$ix K in the mix!)

Here’s the bandcamp player:

The super secret footwork project involving 5ifty is here. The Washington State bass scene is gettin’ massive!

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, it’s PNW BASS – the most bass-killingest, stereo-meltingest, and most-footworkingest act from Washington State in history! Straight outta the fucking woods, fresh from raving out with many a candy-wearing Sasquatch, the PNW BASS has connected with Dynasty Shit with plans of world domination!

Raving out in the middle of the forest is nothing new for us. We’ve been cutty near the Puget for a miiiinute and we’d like to drop some fun sounds on you if you’re interested. Fuck the top 40, we got the footwork to keep the Wet Coast massive!

So grab as much hash as possible and meet us in the Chehalis woods by sundown. Oh, and bring some for yourself, too ;)

..not sure why it’s relevant to put ‘USA’ in the tags on bandcamp, kind of a habit I guess. Seen other people put countries in there. So, yea, dunno. Anyway, hope ya dig the album!

Here’s the full album on youtube. Yeeea!

Limit\Asymmetric releases Technic EP – a beautiful footwork-jungle vision of the future!

Limit\Asymmetric - Technic EP (footwork jungle album put out by Dynasty Shit.com) ds0017

http://dynastyshit.bandcamp.com/album/technic-ep

By day, he goes by the name Evgeniy Sergeev – but by night, he’s Limit\Asymmetric, best footwork jungle producer in Russia. And this is his new album.

Technic EP is a beautiful footwork jungle spectacle by Limit\Asymmetric! Hailing from Saint Petersburg, Limit does his part to help bring junglism into the future with this classic five track album from Dynasty Shit records.

Limit\Asymmetric’s new one is rhythmically intense and complex, but with a rich and vibrant series of lush melodies running through the veins of every track on this anthem-esque release. Technic EP leaves you feeling like you just had five cups of coffee, and with a huge grin on your face, wanting to listen to the whole thing again.

Visit his soundcloud and follow him to get all his new (and old) music! Tell him Will sent you! :)

He’s got a lot of great music in his repertoire. Here’s a mix he did for Sun Wave Podcast (and it’s smooth as hell DNB, btw!) :

Download here.

He also gave the world a little documentary on Harlem Shake and his now-fucking-illustrious musical career…

Baauer went to the United Arab Emirates to explore the culture and learn about a whole different world of sounds and music that he’d never heard before… Playing and listening to a Middle Eastern goat-skin bagpipe, recording the sound of a camel, and taste-tesing an animal’s eyeball were just a few of the encounters that were had there, and then he and his friend met with Baauer’s little brother in Japan, as they explored Gagaku music – an ancient imperial court style of music, as well as many other forms of Eastern Asian sound – and I am very jealous.

Going out and recording something in real life rather than pulling something from the internet and knowing the story behind a certain sound before using it, that changed the way I make music a whole lot. It also opened my mind to what kind of sounds I can use in from various kinds of contexts. Being able to work with something and make it totally different.

But, rather than list everything that happens, I’ll just link this documentary, and I recommend you watch it!
