Just came out with this one… New Orleans bounce samples.. The problem? Up until now, most bounce songs are based on copyrighted beats… So… If you wanna sell your track(s) (or if a mainstream bounce musician – typically from Louisiana or somewhere geographically close, already sold their tracks) – it’s a lot of money, depending on a lot of different factors involving copyright law. And I’m not the first to say it, and I KNOW I won’t be the last, but let me just make it clear: IMO, copyright law is a real bitch. Sure, an artist wants to get paid, but sampling something from fifty years ago SHOULD be acceptable. It’s usually not. Sampling something from 1991? 1992? 1993? Very illegal. Unless you clear the samples – but that’s half the problem – there are different TIERS of payment depending on how many units you want to sell. What the fuck. Can’t it just be, “If you’re getting rich, making millions, pay up, if not, well, give us 5%, or something,” ???
Well.. it’s not, unfortunately. And until Disney collapses (which won’t happen – and ESPECIALLY will never happen since they own Star Wars now) we’re going to have to deal with copyright. I’m ok with an artist making money, but some copyright laws are just fucking stupid… You gotta pay royalties on a song until 70 years AFTER the artist dies? Seriously? CALL ME CRAZY but that shit’s stupid. You’re great grand kids live off your music? Awww… fuck it. At least on bandcamp you can get away with pretty much anything.. Well, almost, unless you get snitched on, I suppose. (SHHH! Let’s keep it that way! It’s one of the last bastions! Especially since soundcloud is getting fucky.)
If you want any kind of info, go to Wikipedia and look up copyright law… then look up copyright law in context of clearing samples from your music… It varies from country to country with copyright law, making it REALLLLLLY ridculous…
Why am I ranting about all this shit??? Here’s why – New Orelans bounce samples. NOW, FREE OF COPYRIGHT. That’s fucking right. Sample to your heart’s fucking delight. Make them bounce tracks!!! Make sissy bounce! Make hardcore footwork bounce! Make death-bounce! …. (…..”death bounce” is not a real genre… but… hmm… it COULD be… anyone here makes a “death bounce song, I promise to post it… unless it’s snuff, or something..)
Anyway, enough of my bullshit rant about legal shit, here’s that preview I promised:
(And yes, the visuals are slightly pixelated.. the beats and loops? golden…and on sale)
ALSO: if you liked that, or are curious about it, there’s a sale on this bounce pack. I predicted bounce and twerkin’ trax would blow up years ago, and it turns out, I was right. I kept my ear to the streets better than DRE (who kept his ears to his interns, who likely “discovered,” Snoop and Eminem… But anyway. This isn’t about my rant about Dr. Dre being a fake-ass “perfectionist,” that takes 1,000 years to produce a dozen or whatever tracks… this is ABOUT THAT BOUNCE!!!!!!!!!!!!
SEEEECREEEET DISCOUNT: Type StrangeFlow50 in the “voucher” tab on the sell page to get a fucking LARRRRGE discount. Probably too large, honestly… And if it doesn’t work… Take out the caps… Maybe it’s “Strangflow50” or just “strangeflow50” … But… it should work.
Oh, I should probably give you the link to get them too, eh? Here: https://sellfy.com/p/NYu7/
Anyway! There y’all go!
A lot of good samples in that pack. I don’t wanna toot my own horn but… uh.. *toot* …
Again, that link for the samples in full : Heeere!
Peace
Happy mixin’ !!!!
It’s time for some awesome old school (and new school) rave shit. Get ready.
GLOWKiD’s Gen X Show features guests, hardcore, jungle, old school, new school, breaks, straight up PLUR-era mixes. (I shouldn’t say PLUR-era, as I want to ‘KEEP THAT PLUR ALIVE,’ so I’ll just say it’s definitely got the old school spirit, plurred out (not a word or phrase) as fuck! Real rave style.
BTW , mixcloud embeds all funny (bad-funny) so scroll down to get the mixes after you hear each one. Thanks!)
There are lots of other mixes but i figure once you click on one you can find em all, there’s tons of mixes here!
So it’s awesome raging out to big bass trax, but what about afterwards when you’re like, “Oh my god, that was great but now I need to just chill…,” what then?
Here – Will Herwig from his youtube page has got you covered. It even opens with the best Flying Lotus track ever (IMO, anyway) and the whole thing is just a stone cold slow-down-groove-mix…. Stuff that might’ve been called wonky (I would’ve called a lot of it that, a few years ago) but it’s so slowed and chilled, I don’t know.. Anyway, whatever the hell it’s called, it’s chill, it’s got mellow breaks and nice ambience, and it’s great for chilling out or even falling asleep, if so desired::::: (and if you look below the video, there’s a dl link that the dude put up, too. Thank, Wil Herwig, you masterful motherfucker!)
Here you go, have it on your phone or wherever: http://dl.soundowl.com/4qhn.mp3
Hey hey, the dude also has a mix of XXYYXX. If you haven’t heard of XXYYXX by now, here:
Cock Rock Disco is Back! (and, for some reason, everything ever released is completely free!)
Breakcore pioneer/Cock Rock Disco founder, Jason Forrest, has recently put the entire catalog up on the ol’ interwebz a few days ago. Go to Cock Rock Disco’s official site, here, to find the magical link for the wonderful releases page, where you can then go on to download as much as your heart desire. Warning: you will be spending days and days on this page alone. Careful, now.
Also, the soundcloud page is here: https://soundcloud.com/cock-rock-disco-label
Jason Forrest was instrumental in Cock Rock Disco, it’s true; but here’s something else you might not realize – without him, Bassadelic.com might never exist (and certainly, our label, DynastyShit.com would DEFINITELY never exist!)
I remember contacting Jason years ago, as I was a huge fan of everything related to breakcore (some of the CRD albums are still sitting on my shelf) and I remember talking to him, asking him questions about his record label, trying to formulate a plan of my own. I became so inspired by what he was doing, I went on to make my own label, the now abandoned (but probably still online) Soul Outsider record label and blog. I eventually changed the name to Bassadelic, basically started anew, and housed it on a completely different server before also making the Dynasty Shit record label (which is now going full-motherfucking-throttle, btw!).
(Another fun little footnote: Bassadelic.com originally started out as a forum. But after about two weeks I hated the Bassadelic Forum. So, now it’s a blog and company… Anyway, back to the story…)
So, you can definitely get your fix of some fine electronic music from the last ten years if you head to the links listed above. But what does the future hold for Jason? Is he done? Has he completely finished with music? Should we all be worried that he’s giving away all of his musical possessions?
No! Quite the contrary – we should be thrilled!! Jason is definitely not done. Actually, he’s just getting warmed up. He told me that he wants to mix, “2002 style breakcore with 2015 style experimental electronic music,” – a statement that, well, knowing Jason, is something to take pretty seriously.
Here are just a few of the full albums you can get, that have been posted on the soundcloud page:
When I contacted him ten years ago, he was living in Berlin. But since then, he’s come back to the States for awhile, and says he “did the money thing, but is interested in music as a passion now.”
So maybe that’s why he’s giving away pure and unadulterated musical gold from the 2000s. Well, whatever the reason, a lot of people are happy about the generosity, especially as breakcore (and all things related) has been quietly sneaking back into prominence, little by little, for the last year or so…
“I ended my career in many ways, but that meant I had to bring it back from the dead now, too.”
So, as of now, where the hell is the guy who put this label together?
“Middle of nowhere,” he said, adding, “Charlotte, North Carolina.”
I asked if he moved there because it was where he was from, originally..
“Yes, but it also is the place where I got a job, and you know, beggars cant be choosers.”
Despite this, all of us breakcore fans can happily be beggy beggy choosers as we sift through the treasure trove of good free hardcore electronic music from 2006 over @ Cock Rock Disco! Cheers!!
