So I was scouring about… Yes, I’, a scoureler… Autocorrect says thats not a word. But shakespeare invented words, and he’s a “genius” for it… SO IM INVENTING the word scourerer. Am I a genius now? lolol. (no). ANYWHO… I wanted to post this… It was originally from Sarah Kristoff, but Big Sherm (one of the best up-n-coming rappers… seriously..) reposted it.. ANYWAY, here’s a rant about art. I hope you dig it:
Art is not just a “hobby.” Not to say that it can’t be a hobby for some (as it is for everyone) but a “hobby” implies something that you do on the side in your free time. “Hobby” implies something that takes 2nd priority to your “day job.” If you are truly an artist, this is your day job, night job, round-the-clock job! Even if you have another occupation that “pays the bills” (because yeah, let’s be real…) you come home and you ART until society forces you to submit once again/you don’t need that shitty job anymore because you’ve finally made it! You don’t take part in your craft because it’s an “outlet,” you do it because you’re compelled to. You do it because your own ideas drive you crazy into the wee hours of the night. You do it because it makes you downright depressed when you aren’t exercising gifts you were given. You do it because your purpose on this planet is as a vessel for beauty and creation, here to articulate emotions and concepts we do not yet fully understand by stimulating our eyes + ears + subconscious and beyond. A true artist is not just a partaker but a seer, a guide… If you are an artist at heart you don’t just “art” for occasional enjoyment, or because somebody said it was a good idea… you make it your LIFE, because you have no other choice. #TakeArtSeriously
