Well, everyone, welcome to the Month of May. For most countries, except the one I’m living in, today is huge holiday… but not here, for some reason.
So, admittedly, the month of April went out on a real downer note, for a lot of people, including myself – by now, if you’re interested at all in juke or footwork, you’ve likely heard that the legendary DJ Rashad has passed away. I didn’t know Rashad personally, but I was a huge fan, and still am. My wishes go out to his child and to his friends and fam, everyone at Teklife, and to everyone who knew him. I’m not going to try to act like it’s not sad that he’s gone, obviously it’s very sad, but I will say one thing: Rashad was a down to earth, extremely nice, hard-working & ambitious visionary. That’s a rare combination. I think some of the things that could come out of Rashad’s legacy are the traits I just mentioned… I think anytime you can keep someone’s legacy alive by trying to take on some of their most positive traits and internalizing them, it’s a good thing. I’m not saying it’s something that can always happen over night, and I’m definitely not saying that making music or being ambitious are the only things that are important, because they’re definitely not. But, like I said, I think it’s always good to try and keep your head up, and when a creative legend passes too early, in the end it’s good to remember them by carrying on some of their best traits if and when you can.
Anyway, that’s what I have to say about that, I hope it sounded alright. I’m going to be positive about the month of May and beyond, and try as hard as possible to give everything in life my best shot. I know that might sound really cheesy, but I don’t really care.
So, what’s in store for Bassadelic this month? Well, I have a new full-length footwork jungle album coming out soon, mastered by Simteks, and entitled, ‘Hardcore is Back, Vol 1,’ coming out on Dynasty Shit Records (Bassadelic’s hardcore-electronic record label) and there’s also going to be a couple of new sample packs coming out, as well… Though I’m going to keep some of the projects quiet for the moment, I will say there is going to be another Electro Swing sample pack coming out soon. It’ll be #4! This one, if all goes as planned, is going to have some really fun remixable vocal tunes in it, as well.
That’s definitely not the only thing going on at Bassadelic, but I’ll leave the rest of it as a surprise. Definitely some very fun things happening soon…

Some real cool shirts at that site, too! From the hexagon with the words TEKLIFE in the middle, to some really involved graphics of little cartoon figures all dancing and footworking to Rashad and Spinn! I recommend them! I don’t know how long the profits are going to Rashad’s family, but I found out about that as of today, May 1st, 2014… So, if you’re reading this in 2021, it’s probably not the case anymore (just sayin) but I recommend getting a shirt, because they’re awesome.
