Footwork and juke music, born out of Chicago, have taken hold in Europe – and, Asia. There are dozens of places to find good Japanese footwork and juke music, but I’m going to focus on one in particular: Japanese Mutation Bootyism.

It’s a dope music label with an ongoing repertoire of very hard-hitting 160+ BPM style tracks.

There’s actually two different compilations, but the second compilation seems to have four discs to it, so I’ll list everything here:

The first compilation (with almost fifty tracks, available at the bottom of this post) is FREEEEE. Each disc of the second compilation, however, is ¥1,700. I have no idea how much money that is in the U.S., or I didn’t, until I saw the conversion into USD on the site, which promptly informed me that ¥1,700 = $16.66. So, ok. Now I understand.

Some of these tunes are seriously hardcore, too. Very speedy, very interesting, very fun. I also enjoy the graphic style of these albums. Still not sure which artist is my favorite in this series, or which track. Overall, the whole series is a lot of fun. Though, I will say that the tune, ‘klymaxx,’ by PANORAMA FAMILY (from Disc 2) is one of my favorites.

These juke’d out gems range! From the cutty side of ghettohouse / footwork, with lots of samples and that almost-swung rhythm, including expertly arranged vocal samples, retro sampling of melodic acid-house riffs, as well as industrial noise sounds and jungle beats ‘n aesthetics; it’s DEFINITELY something to check into, if you’re wondering what music is going to sound like in 2014 and beyond. And I’m guessing you PROBABLY are, if you’re still reading this post, eh? :) Beyond the hardcore, there are definitely some more soulful grooves in the mix, as well. It’s really a good mix up, in all honesty.
